Internal Linking

Internal links connect your articles to each other, helping readers discover more content and improving your site's SEO. Lovarank automatically suggests relevant internal links based on your existing content.

Why Internal Linking Matters

For SEO

  • Distributes page authority — Links pass ranking power between pages
  • Helps search engines — Crawlers discover and understand your content structure
  • Reduces bounce rate — Keeps visitors engaged with related content
  • Establishes topical authority — Shows search engines your expertise depth

For Readers

  • Provides additional resources — Readers find related information easily
  • Improves navigation — Natural pathways through your content
  • Builds trust — Demonstrates comprehensive topic coverage

How It Works

When generating articles, Lovarank:

  1. Analyzes your sitemap — Discovers your existing pages and posts
  2. Understands content — Identifies topics and keywords for each URL
  3. Finds relevance — Matches new content to existing pages
  4. Inserts links — Adds contextual links where they fit naturally

Setting Up Internal Linking

Step 1: Configure Your Sitemap

  1. Go to Product Settings in the sidebar
  2. In the Blog Content section, enter your sitemap URL
  3. Save your settings

Step 2: Run Link Detection

  1. Navigate to Linking Configuration in the sidebar
  2. Enter your sitemap URL (or verify it's pre-filled from settings)
  3. Click Detect Links
  4. Lovarank scans your sitemap and catalogs your content

Step 3: Review Detected Links

After detection completes, you'll see:

  • Total URLs discovered
  • Sample of detected pages with titles
  • Link source configuration

Step 4: Save Configuration

Click Save Configuration to enable internal linking for new articles.

Lovarank supports two approaches for discovering your content:

Sitemap-Based (Recommended)

Uses your sitemap.xml to find pages. Best for:

  • Larger sites with many pages
  • Sites with regularly updated sitemaps
  • Comprehensive link discovery

Database-Based

Uses only articles published through Lovarank. Best for:

  • New sites with limited existing content
  • Ensuring only Lovarank-published content is linked

In Product Settings

Set the default number of internal links per article in Article Preferences. Options range from 0-10 links.

In Generated Articles

You can add, remove, or modify internal links when editing articles:

  • Click on existing links to edit or remove
  • Select text and use the link tool to add new links

Lovarank places internal links:

  • Contextually — Where the topic naturally fits
  • In flowing text — Not as awkward lists or forced insertions
  • Distributed throughout — Not all clustered in one section
  • With relevant anchor text — The linked text describes the destination

Best Practices

Keep Your Sitemap Updated

Ensure your sitemap reflects your current content. Most CMS platforms update sitemaps automatically, but verify yours is current.

Use Descriptive Slugs

Pages with clear, descriptive URLs make better link targets and produce more relevant anchor text.

Build a Content Library

The more content you have, the more linking opportunities exist. Consistent publishing expands your internal linking potential.

Review Link Suggestions

While automatic links save time, reviewing and occasionally adjusting ensures optimal relevance.

Don't Overdo It

The default 3-5 internal links per article works well for most content. More isn't always better—quality and relevance matter more than quantity.

Troubleshooting

No Links Being Added

  • Verify your sitemap URL is correct and accessible
  • Run link detection in Linking Configuration
  • Check that your sitemap contains your blog posts
  • Ensure internal link count is greater than 0 in Article Preferences

Irrelevant Links

  • Your sitemap may include non-blog pages (contact, about, etc.)
  • Consider using a blog-specific sitemap if available
  • Links are chosen based on content relevance—some variation is normal

Sitemap Not Found

  • Check the URL includes https://
  • Try common sitemap paths: /sitemap.xml, /sitemap_index.xml
  • Verify your CMS generates a sitemap (some require plugins)
